This installation uses the root system of a buffelgrass plant, invasive to the Southwest, to imagine how relationships with the natural world may change if unseen networks were revealed. Alien or invasive species are often vilifyed as these opportunistic organisms out compete native plants and animals. However, ultimately human built capitalist systems that exploit the land are to blame for the presence of many of these species in our landscapes. Through the manipulation of both natural and synthetic materials, this installation twists the human with the natural together to examine the neverending circle of exploitation, introduction, and erradication.
